15 songs by Kostas Skarvelis and 15 songs by Panagiotis Tountas, selected by Paris Perysinakis. Kostas Skarvelis (1880–1942) and Panagiotis Tountas (1886–1942) are two leading figures in the musical scene of Greece during the first decades of the previous century. Both were multi-instrumentalists and highly prolific composers, credited with hundreds of songs in the discography of their era. Paris Perysinakis selected these songs primarily based on their rhythms and modes/scales, with the aim of creating a repertoire suitable for performance by both students and professional musicians.

In the recordings I studied, alongside the main melodic line, secondary melodies and harmonies often coexist. The blending of all these elements gives the composers and their era their very distinctive and characteristic sound. My initial transcriptions included all these accompanying elements. However, for the present edition, the need arose to create a second line, one that would not appear only momentarily, as in the recordings, but would actively participate in shaping the melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic patterns of each song — at times through drones, at times through characteristic rhythmic motifs, and at times through movement (at intervals of a 3rd, 6th, or octave from the main melodic line). One could say that I completed the secondary melodies found in the recordings, with my primary concern being the preservation of the modal characteristics, but above all the style and aesthetic of each song.
