Fierce and imposing, ominous and unpredictable, Poseidon was the absolute deity of aquatic bodies and submerged kingdoms. Son of Rhea, Great Mother of the Gods, and the Titan, Kronos, he ruled over waves, sea creatures and seafarers across the globe. His symbol of authority, the divine trident, wreaked violent earthquakes and catastrophic storms, while the impulsive and indomitable bull, Poseidon’s sacred animal, was also the symbol of the emblematic city of Knossos.
