An authentic music registration of an invaluable cultural heritage, the Smyrna¢s Songs, this collection includes songs from Smyrna, the Asia Minor Coast, Constantinople, as well as from the refugees¢ districts of Athens and Piraeus. 250 songs are comprised in the five volumes composing this collection, the heritage of anonymous and famous composers of the past two centuries, songs that might possibly be characterized as traditional, popular, rebetiko, estudantinas, serenade, mane, light songs, etc. Besides scores in European written notation, chords and music modes (makam) are also registered. As much information as it was possible to collect is given for each song, concerning its origin, lyrical and musical variations, also to be found in discography, from the beginning of the previous century and of more recent date. Ghiorgos Konstantzos, of the Greek Music Archives , is responsible for the collection.
