Figures of Rebetiko
A series of 10 cards dedicated to the world of Rebetiko: its iconic figures, stories, and atmosphere—a musical genre that emerged from the urban working-class and popular communities and evolved into an integral part of Greek cultural identity.
Rebetiko was born in the early 20th century in Smyrna and Constantinople, giving a voice to people living on the margins of society. It sang of love, sorrow, poverty, exile, joy, and survival. Although it was viewed with suspicion for many years, it managed to preserve its strength and authenticity, passing from one generation to the next. Today, Rebetiko is internationally recognized as a living element of intangible cultural heritage, having been inscribed in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2017.
The “Figures of Rebetiko” cards visually capture this unique world: musicians, moments, gestures, and scenes that evoke the vitality, intensity, and soul of Rebetiko. An ideal collection for enthusiasts, a thoughtful gift, a decorative display, or a keepsake for anyone who appreciates music history and Greek folk culture.
