This acrobat brings ‘Clair de Lune’ to life

by James Bennett, II

To mark the centenary year of Debussy’s death, pianist Alexandre Tharaud and acrobat Yoann Bourgeois teamed up for a choreographed performance of “Clair de Lune” from the French composer’s Suite bergamasque. Already a wildly popular piece, this year it seems even more musicians want to play with it in tribute to the pianist and composer — which means you really need to put in work in order to truly stand out. In this gorgeous take, shot by Raphaël Wertheimer More, Bourgeois carries most of the visual weight, falling in style to the song’s colorful patterns.
