How music influences our emotions, feelings, and behaviors

Dr. Amy Belfi | TEDx MissouriS&T

Dr. Belfi shares her research on the length of time it takes for an individual to accurately determine if they will like a piece of music. Dr. Amy Belfi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychological Science at Missouri S&T. She received her B.A. in Psychology from St. Olaf College, her Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Iowa, and completed postdoctoral training at New York University. Her research focuses on how music influences our thoughts, emotions, feelings, and behaviors. Why do we like music? Is music different than other types of objects in our environment? The results of her research have suggested that music is an especially powerful tool for eliciting some of our strongest emotions and memories.
