The International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition is THE “springboard” for a career in opera: Past participants and prize winners include Elina Garanča, Angela Gheorghiu, Marina Mescheriakova, Ildikó Raimondi, Irina Samoilova, Stanislav Schwez. Recent winners include Italian tenor Antonio Poli, who made his debut at the Salzburg Festival alongside Anna Netrebko and Piotr Beczala. Soprano Rachel Willis-Sørensen, the 1st prize winner of the International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition in 2011, made her highly-acclaimed Royal Opera House Covent Garden debut in 2012. And Pretty Yende, winner of all main prizes in 2009, makes an international career with engagements at the most renowned opera houses in the world.

The competition administration and headquarters are based in Vienna.

Main Prizes

1st Prize: € 7,000 donated in memoriam KS Teresa Stich-Randall
Dr. Véra Gregor about her prize sponsoring: “Both in my personal and professional life, I was deeply influenced by the friendship of opera singer Teresa Stich-Randall. It’s important for me to make the achievements and attitude of this extraordinary artist known to the young singers of the Belvedere Competition.”

2nd Prize: € 3,500 donated by Jan Meulendijks and Bart Schuil
Jan Meulendijks and Bart Schuil about their prize sponsoring: “The promotion of young opera singers in the Netherlands as well as internationally is our concern for many years. We are very happy to promote this award again in 2017.”

3rd Prize: € 2,500 donated by Valentin and Anni Leitgeb Foundation
