In this course, we will seek the sound of modal music through our instruments, by learning pieces, different dialects, singing, technique, and improvisation.

The course is suitable to musicians coming from a classical western background, who want to find an entrance into the world of modal music. It will also be interesting to string players who already play modal music (such as lyra, kemençe, kamanche, yaylı tanbur) that want to dive more deeply into makam, exploring the colors of bowed instruments inside this music.
