The “Laika” or “songs of the people” genre is best described as the transition period of music that drew on the traditional elements of folk music which were then interpreted in a contemporary way. In this seminar we will delve into Palia Laika and focus on songs of the 50’s and 60’s that best represent this genre and era. We will focus on the performers, composers, lyricists and pay special attention to the women who interpreted these songs in a unique way.
Bio: Eva Xenou was born in Athens, where she still lives and works. She started learning music at an early age and went on to study classical guitar with Lisa Zoe and folk guitar with Noe Zafeiridis.
